Southeastern Michigan School Turnaround

Turnaround Components

Page history last edited by jerry.marentette@... 1 yr ago

For a turn around to be successful, the following conditions must occur.  (as captured in the Mass Insight School Turnaround Framework)

1.  Change Conditions

  • - The principal must have control over the budget, people and programs in his or her building.
  • - The central office must have an office entirely dedicated to turnaround that frees those schools from district-wide mandates and regulations

2.  Build Capacity

  • A school or district must partner with an educational intermediary to do the work together
  • Professional development and collaborative teaching must be embedded into the culture of the school.

3.  Create Clusters for Support

  • A few schools working in isolation cannot do this work.   Turn around schools should be strategically clustered together so that the leaders can share and learn best practices through a network of like minded or similarly situated schools.
